Weed Whipped

Edging

Description

Improper edging can cause a weed infestation such as Crabgrass and Spurge. Most will us a weed whip and cut into the grass breaking the soil barrier to allow weeds to come in. Another tool used is a straight blade edger. This tool cuts between the grass and against a hard surface like the sidewalk. This can also cause an opening for weeds to grow.

Time of Year

Throughout the growing season.

Symptoms

This is a very common. When using a weed whip be careful and not cut into the soil.

Treatment

Take extra care when edging. If a pre-emergent has already been put down anything that can distrub the soil will break that barrier and allow weeds to germinate and spread. Remember the longer you can stand your lawn the better it will control weeds by itself.
